The Board of Trustees met October 17 for a board meeting.

Among the items we discussed were:

  • The evaluation process for our lead minister: in the past, we have conducted an annual survey to get feedback from the congregation about how well the church is meeting our end statements and the responses were used as part of the evaluation process for the minister. The current board is interested in considering other ways to evaluate a minister. Board president Sara Fleming consulted with the Unitarian Universalist Association and learned of a plan called "Fulfilling the Call" which includes an evaluation rubric. Board members will evaluate this document and begin rethinking our relationship between our end statements and how we evaluate our minister.
  • The board received an update on staffing. As a reminder, staffing this year is being done jointly between the Board of Trustees and Rev. Krista because this is an interim year. Typically, the lead minister would handle all staffing. We now have a candidate who is going to start on a contract basis for an interim period to help with bookkeeping and administration tasks until we find the right person for the full-time position. We have had a steady flow of applicants and interviews for the congregational administrator position.
  • Adam had his final Sunday with us as music director. We are searching for a choir director and the hiring team is actively interviewing for this position. In the meantime, the music team is leading worship music.
  • The board has scheduled a workshop with the UUA in December to work on a strategic plan for Eliot Chapel.
  • Join the Board outside of the produce stand in Kirkwood from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, October 26 at the Downtown Kirkwood Halloween Walk. We will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.

As always you can join us for board meetings. They are held on the third Tuesday of the month in Adam's Hall. The next one will be Nov. 21.
