Pastoral Care is the art of providing

spiritual support, guidance, and hope

in times of hardship or crisis through

deep and active listening.”

Who Needs Pastoral Care?

You may find it helpful to contact the Pastoral Care Team if you . . .

  • Have lost someone close to you.
  • Are dealing with a serious injury or illness of yourself or a loved one.
  • Do not feel safe at home.
  • Are getting married, separated, or divorced.
  • Have added to your family by adoption or giving birth.
  • Are having problems adjusting to the challenges of the aging process.
  • Have lost your job.
  • Have had a miscarriage or abortion.
  • Have experienced any event that has caused you to feel lonely or depressed.

The Pastoral Care Team

The Pastoral Care Team is comprised of supportive, caring individuals who will actively listen and spend time with you as you share the issues that are causing you concern, pain, or anxiety.

The team has been UUA-trained and is under the supervision of the minister.

The members of the Pastoral Care Team cannot offer health care, counseling, legal, financial, or professional advice.

Your Pastoral Care Associate will spend time with you and listen closely, with the intent of helping you find the answers you seek within yourself.

What We Do

The Pastoral Care Associate assigned to you will contact you, and together you will decide mutually convenient times and frequencies of further contacts. Meetings can be by phone, over Zoom, in your home, or in a public place.

The Pastoral Care Associate will listen deeply to help you understand yourself better.

The Pastoral Care Associate will offer support to you.

If more expert help is needed, the minister will become involved.

Also, a Sunday Pastoral Care Associate will be available after each Sunday service. You may have come to the service with something weighing heavily on your mind or something in the service may remind you of something that causes you pain. You may feel it would help if you talked to someone about it. Sunday Pastoral Care is there for exactly that.
