Lead by Listening: Eliot's Leadership Circles Pilot

Stop Giving Advice. Start Asking Powerful Questions.

Are you a dedicated lay leader facing complex congregational challenges? Do you want to move beyond simple problem-solving advice and instead develop transformative, self-driven solutions – for yourself and your teams?

Eliot Unitarian Universalist Chapel invites you to join a confidential Leadership Circles Pilot Program – a small-group peer coaching initiative designed to improve your listening, questioning, and problem-solving skills.

The Coaching Circle

This program is built on a philosophy of coaching over advising, inspired by principles that promote development over delegation.

  • Size: Up to six participants and one trained facilitator.
  • Duration: Three 90-minute sessions in January, February, and March. We ask for your commitment to attend all three sessions.
  • The Format: In each session, two participants (45 minutes each) will present a current leadership challenge. The facilitator will guide the rest of the group to focus first on asking powerful coaching questions to help the presenter find their own solution. Only after this focused inquiry will participants offer advice.

This structure allows you to:

  • Practice and sharpen the fundamental skills of listening and questioning.
  • Benefit immediately from the diverse wisdom of your peers on a real challenge you are currently facing.
  • Build a culture of empowered, self-directed leadership.

"Advice is nice, but first, listen. Coaching helps you develop people."
