January 2024

The Board of Trustees met January 16, 2024 in Adams Hall. We celebrated the news from the search team: they recommend Rev. Krista Taves be our called minister! The members of the church will consider this recommendation at a special meeting on March 3.

Only people who are members in good standing are able to participate in the vote. All members should plan to check the membership rolls (on the bulletin board outside Adams Hall) to make sure they are in good standing as soon as possible. The deadline to fix membership is February 12 – please contact Brian Franklin, Director of Administration, to make arrangements at admin@eliotchapel.org. The pathway to becoming a member includes meeting with a minister and signing the membership book. Members in good standing have made a financial contribution of record in the past 12 months or received a waiver in case of financial hardship from the Lead Minister.

Treasurer Sue Bell offered an update to the Board on attendance. The number of people attending in the sanctuary has grown to an average of 134 people a week as of November 2023 compared to 111 people a week in November 2022. Attendance at Religious Education for children is also growing. We are projecting to end the year with a planned deficit of $45,000.

The Nominating Committee planned to host a wine-and-cheese and leadership night at Eliot to discuss church governance. Eliot is moving to a "Mission-Based governance" model which will offer us more partnership in decision making between the Board of Trustees and the lead minister.

Rev. Krista reported to us that inactive members are returning and rejoining the church.

Some upcoming church events everyone should note include:

  • March 3 Pledge drive kick-off and special vote to call Rev. Krista Taves
  • April 6 Eliot Talent Show: 5-6pm dinner, 6-7:30 talent extravaganza
  • April 27 Eliot Trivia Night
