Board of Trustees Recruiting Members for Personnel Committee

The Eliot Chapel Board of Trustees is forming a new Personnel Committee and is seeking members of the congregation — preferably individuals with human resources experience — to serve on the committee. This group will report to the Board, and its primary role is to help ensure that Eliot Chapel complies with applicable labor laws and follows its internal personnel policies.

Committee Responsibilities

  • The Committee does not have staff management authority and does not participate in supervision or personnel decision-making.

  • When the Personnel Manual is updated, the Lead Minister will ask the Committee to review proposed amendments to ensure consistency with Chapel policies and relevant labor laws.

  • The Lead Minister and the Personnel Committee will conduct periodic reviews of the Personnel Manual to confirm it reflects current labor laws, Chapel policies, and updated UUA staffing recommendations.

  • In partnership with the Lead Minister, the Committee will help develop updates to the Personnel Manual based on UUA guidance, industry best practices, and Eliot Chapel’s mission and vision.

  • Committee members can expect quarterly meetings, an annual review of the Personnel Manual, occasional research on HR policies and laws, and periodic communication with staff via email.

If you are interested in serving on the Personnel Committee, please email the Board at board@eliotchapel.org with a brief description of your interest and any relevant HR experience. Thank you!
