Eliot Music Director Job Description and Details

Eliot Unitarian Chapel is a vibrant liberal congregation of 500+ members, housed in a historic church in Kirkwood, Missouri. Currently we are seeking an experienced music director to lead our choral groups and music programming. Applications accepted through March 15, 2020.

 

Job Title:  Eliot Chapel Music Director

Duties:  Responsible for the continuance and growth of the church music program.

 

Reports to: Senior Minister

Start Date: July 1, 2020

Compensation: $33,000

Benefits: health insurance, 501c3 contribution, professional expenses

 

Hours: 20 hours/week, flexible scheduling

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
    • > 3 years experience
    • Familiarity with Unitarian Universalist worship
    • Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries (AUUMM) membership preferred

  • Direction and scheduling of:
    • Choirs
    • Accompanists, guest musicians, instrumentalists, volunteers etc.
    • Rehearsal and performances
    • Sound Technician
    • Attend Staff and Ministerial Planning meetings
    • Tuning and repair of piano, organ and other instruments as needed
  • Performance, arrangement and consultation of, multicultural, theme enhancing, choral and instrumental music
    • Worship, weddings, concerts, recitals, rallies, fellowship, holidays etc.
    • Hire Guest Musicians as needed
    • Lead Hymns at Worship
    • Explore a variety of high quality musical styles
    • Invite and include as many congregants as possible in music
    • Attend conferences
  • Program music and musicians in collaboration with worship leaders
    • Select meaningful music for worship
    • Submit information to publicize in a timely manner
    • Newsletter, Order of Service, Concerts
  • Supervision and Evaluation
    • Staff Pianists, Accompanists and Guest Musicians
    • Sound System elements and AV technicians
  • Manage and Maintain music library
    • Manage the music budget
      • Clear copyrights and permissions as necessary
